Toward Baggage-Free Airport Terminals: A Case Study of London City Airport

نویسندگان

چکیده

Nowadays, the aviation industry pays more attention to emission reduction toward net-zero carbon goals. However, volume of global passengers and baggage is exponentially increasing, which leads challenges for sustainable airports. A baggage-free airport terminal considered a potential solution in solving this issue. Removing operation away from passenger terminals will reduce workload operators promote use public transport terminals. As result, it bring significant impact on energy environment, leading fuel consumption mitigation emission. This paper studies collection network design problem using vehicle routing strategies augmented reality We spreadsheet solver tool, based integration modified Clark Wright savings heuristic density-based clustering algorithm, optimizing location logistic hubs planning routes collection. tool applied case study at London City Airport analyze impacts quantitatively. The result indicates that proposed can significantly 290.10 tonnes emissions annually.

A Cohort Study on Meniscal Lesions among Airport Baggage Handlers

Meniscal lesions are common and may contribute to the development of knee arthrosis. A few case-control and cross-sectional studies have identified knee-straining work as risk factors for meniscal lesions, but exposure-response relations and the role of specific exposures are uncertain, and previous results may be sensitive to reporting and selection bias. We examined the relation between menis...

Enhanced Operational Resilience of Airport Baggage Handling Systems

This case study was part of a major redevelopment programme currently ongoing at one of the major UK airports. More specifically, it dealt with the reconfiguration of its baggage handling system, and was driven principally by new regulations and standards for bag screening (so called ’standard 3’) as well as sustained steep demand growth. In this paper, we will show how two different parallel s...

Supporting Intelligent Passenger Flows in Airport Terminals

In this paper we present a Digital Boarding Assistance (DigiBa) system for passengers in airport terminals. By providing navigation, notification and information services, passengers are enabled to move efficiently through the terminal. Based on functional requirements of such a system, the paper presents a prototype implementation on an embedded mobile device with restricted resources. Challen...

Managing Passenger Handling at Airport Terminals

An efficient handling of passengers is essential for reliable terminal processes. Since the entire progress of terminal handling depends on the individual behavior of the passengers, a valid and calibrated agent-based model allows for a detailed evaluation of system performance and for identifying optimization capabilities. Our model is based on a stochastic approach for passenger movements inc...

Copenhagen Airport Cohort: air pollution, manual baggage handling and health

PURPOSE Copenhagen Airport Cohort 1990-2012 presents a unique data source for studies of health effects of occupational exposure to air pollution (ultrafine particles) and manual baggage handling among airport employees. We describe the extent of information in the cohort and in the follow-up based on data linkage to the comprehensive Danish nationwide health registers. In the cohort, all infor...
